PVP Rules & Ettiquet

Post by Unreliable Narrator on Sun Jul 26, 2015 9:16 pm

The main focus of Andrune is on roleplaying, and creating interesting and compelling storylines. Fighting and conflict between characters, so long as it is appropriate and makes sense, is sometimes necessary.

I'm going to record a few general guidelines here in order to make CvC combat fair, and enjoyable.

1. Guidelines for Combat
2. Story, Death, and Capture

Guidelines for Combat

1. If you initiate pvp you must set your opponent to hostile using the dislike button. Many spells as well as stealth and cleave attacks effect hostiles creatures differently.

2. All communication in pvp situations must occur via local chat. Using tells or party chat to strategize or summon help is considered metagaming.

3. If pvp occurs in the presence of non-hostile, named NPCs a DM must be present. This is so the world reacts appropriately.

4. Bare in mind the limitations of NWN. Areas load faster for some than for others. Please give a few moments to PCs who have recently transitioned, and make sure they are prepared to continue.

5. Traps should not be placed at area transitions, or stacked atop one another.

6. A player who has died, re-spawned, or rested must wait at least thirty minutes before rejoining the fight.

Guidelines for Character Death, Capture, and Theft

1) In most cases a dead character should respawn, especially if their body is left behind. It will be assumed they escaped the situation, somehow, but with debilitating injuries.

Permanent death and capture are the choice of the PC and the DM. If a character is captured or permanently killed, it should be a fun and collaborative effort. If this is undesirable then the defeated character should respawn, and behave as if they just barely escaped.

2) It is acceptable to steal from a slain character, if it makes sense. But its unsporting to rob someone of all their equipment.

If a character is defeated in order to get hold of a specific item relevant to a storyline... such as a key, a map, etc. it is perfectly acceptable to take it from them.

It might also be appropriate to take a trophy from a slain enemy, but there should be some logic to it: a fighter might claim his enemy's prized weapon or armor, a wizard might take an enemy's spell scrolls, etc.
